Work sold in Woolgather Shop

Today I gave my work over to John to take down to the shop and sell. This is good promotion for inpress as well as allowing me to get my work into the real world and sold to the public.

inpress:: at Creative Networks

This evening inpress held a stall at the Creative Networks event where David Shrigley was the college's guest speaker. It was a pleasant evening with a good turn out.

We were approached by 'Pool' creative with regards to selling our work online; Polo are in the process of setting up an online shop where you can purchase work from Leeds creatives. We exchanged business cards and are going to keep in contact with regards to this.

We also spoke to the international marketing manager for Leeds College of Art. He liked the idea of what we were doing and the work we were producing, so said he would be in touch seen as he only worked upstairs in the marketing office.

Jane Denton spoke to us about selling work at an event in Headingley to raise money for a charity. We would have to pay £15 for a table and 20% of our profits would go to the charity. Something to consider anyway.

Finally, John from Woolgather attended and spoke to us about creating work for the shop space. We are going to have a meeting with their team next week to discuss this further.

Overall, although we didn't make many sales from our shop, the night was a success and we did some networking to get our work out there in forthcoming events and opportunities.

Tutorial:: Phil

Fresh out my tutorial and im feeling good about things. Phil talked me through how I can timeplan my briefs best in order to get the most out of all of them; this really helped me as I think this is one aspect that I have been a little unsure of over the past week or so. I am going to follow through with what he said and hopefully this will allow me to focus in on each brief in order to get the best out of each.

InPress Meeting with marketing

As InPress, we today had a meeting with marketing to discuss an opportunity to run a stall at an upcoming networking event, with guest speaker David Shrigley. This is a great opportunity for us to get our work into the real world and a networking opportunity not to be missed. We will have the stall in the canteen (like at the end of year shows) and can sell any work we wish. We are also able to attend to talk too, as we are part of the event. Excellent.

Business Card and Promotional Material Pin Up

Our first task of the day was to pin up a piece of promotional material and our business card.

We later discussed which pieces stood out from the wall, seen as we are 43 designers all competing against one another. Mine was received well as it was bright and positioned in the bottom right hand corner (as we read from left to right, it would be one of the last pieces to be viewed.) I also received a post-it note on my work saying it was good, but to consider using colour on the edges of the business card.

InPress Meeting

Today we had our first meeting of the academic year. We wanted to discuss our next event, in order for us to be able to get planning and designing for it. As we are going to use InPress as a brief for  level 06 we needed to ensure that we scheduled the event for before Christmas (as this is the deadline for OUGD301). Our meeting was concise and to the point; we are going to aim to hold our next event in the Corn Exchange on the last weekend of November. This will allow us to then sell Christmas themed work; a little context for our designs rather than designing anything. We also wanted to hold it in the corn exchange over a weekend this time; we thought this would allow us to have an opening night (in which I proposed to have free prints for the first 20 people, in an attempt to entice people along). We can then have the shop open over the Saturday and Sunday, which will then give people a chance to return and buy prints, or just come along if they cannot make the Friday event. All in all, our overall mentality as a collective is to push InPress further and that nothing is impossible!

Self Promotion Development

As part of my PPD work, I need to produce self promotional material which I can send out to studios for potential studio visits/placement opportunities. I wrote a list of who I am as a designer and the work I want to produce.

However, I have realised that rather than stating what design I am interested in producing, I need to actually produce this work and send it out.

These are my rough designs....

These are a few I tested out....
